A 53-year-old Portuguese man was arrested upon his arrival at Malta International Airport after being caught carrying around 11 kilograms of drugs in his luggage, with a total street value of approximately €250,000, the police said in a statement.
Police, together with Customs officials, conducted inspections on passengers arriving on a flight from Seville, Spain at around 1:00 a.m. on Saturday.
After a passenger aroused suspicion, a search of his luggage was carried out, and several packages were found containing around 10 kilograms of a substance suspected to be cannabis, with a street value of nearly €100,000, and approximately one kilogram of a substance believed to be cocaine, valued at €150,000, the police said.
The Portuguese man is being held in custody for further investigations. He is expected to be arraigned in court today at around 2:00 p.m. before Magistrate Lara Lanfranco.
