The Broadcasting Authority requested the intervention of Minister Manuel Mallia for Public Broadcasting Services to drop its cases against the BA, sources told The Malta Independent online.
On Tuesday, a joint statement was issued by PBS and the BA saying that the national broadcaster had dropped all pending court cases against the Broadcasting Authority in a bid to strengthen the collaboration and commitment in the interest of broadcasting of the highest level.
This portal has learnt that the decision was taken after the BA held a meeting with Dr Mallia, whose portfolio includes the administration of PBS. During the meeting, the BA told Dr Mallia about the pending court cases and said that an amicable solution would go a long way for the BA and PBS to start a new chapter. This was especially so considering that, after the election, a new editorial board had been set up at PBS.
Following that meeting, the BA and the new editorial board of PBS met and it was agreed that PBS drops its cases against the BA.
