The Manoel Theatre is on Sunday putting up what has been described as an innovative theatrical project, Pretty Lisa.
The play, according to culture parliamentary secretary Jose Herrera, links culture with social life.
Michael Mangion, PR and marketing manager of the Manoel, led a conference on the drama, together with Judith Debono, of Dar Qalb ta’ Gesu, which helps victims of domestic violence, and Simone Spiteri, drama consultant of the theatre. Pretty Lisa director Marcelle Teuma said their aim is to raise awareness.
Dr Herrera said the drama is an example where culture gives voice to social issues. Pretty Lisa tries to prise open a window through which awareness is raised about what victims suffer during their bitter life experiences.
One out of every four persons in Malta suffers some type of domestic violence some time in their life. Such violence occurs in all classes of society, it is not limited to any one particular group and the aim of the drama is to raise awareness about this sensitive subject through the theatre.
The play is divided in two phases. The first is made up of workshops with victims whose experiences have been given voice in a script for the theatre. The second phase is the play.
Pretty Lisa will be staged at the Manoel on Sunday at 8pm. Ticket proceeds will be in aid of Dar Qalb ta’ Gesu of Sta Venera.
