The local audit firm PKF on 27 June celebrated its 25th anniversary, seeing the culmination of its efforts to become a market leader in its sector.
PKF forms part of an international network and is one of the world’s leading audit and advisory firms with representation in over 125 countries. To celebrate its anniversary, PFK hosted a cocktail reception at the Cavalieri Hotel.
George Mangion, managing partner, told guests about this important milestone and how the firm through the years established itself and became a leader in audit, accounting tax and business advisory services in Malta.
In recent years, PKF had expanded its horizons and provided financial services, cross-border tax, solutions, mergers and acquisitions, remote gaming and captive insurance services to an array of blue chip companies locally and overseas.
Mr Mangion spoke of three important sectors where PKF proved to be very successful. “The first being within the area of international tax, where PKF helped multinational clients integrate tax planning into their overall business strategy and comply with both local and international regulatory requirements. In particular, PKF designed a cross-border tax structure in Brazil for a large construction and property development company on behalf of owners of Dutch domicile living in Spain.
PKF has also built a strong brand in enticing sports betting companies to Malta. In fact in 2001, PKF started to promote sports betting licences and was first to register a listed Australian sports betting company.
As part of the company’s overseas marketing efforts, in 2009, Mr Mangion presented a discussion paper during a conference in China on Global Gaming developments organised by the Ministry of Welfare in conjunction with the University in Beijing. This discussion paper was extremely well-received and led to a repeat invitation by the organising committee to PKF to attend subsequent annual events.
Throughout the years, PFK strived to make a name in promoting the advantages of Captive Insurance. Mr Mangion explained that “PKF has been promoting the advantages for Captive Insurance owners to register in Malta through the organisation of an annual conference held each year in Dublin for the past three years during which technical speakers highlighted the benefits of settling in Malta by use of exemptions of certain licensing and regulatory criteria as well as an expedited licensing procedure”.
Mr Mangion concluded by saying that “One of the company's main strengths is its people. All partners and staff at PKF remain committed to achieve a high level of professionalism in everything they do, while ever mindful to promote Malta as an ideal jurisdiction to re-locate a variety of financial services, such as the registration of PIP funds and UCITS ”.
