Comiso flights suspended, others still ongoing

Malta Independent Friday, 2 August 2013, 19:27 Last update: about 13 years ago

Just a few weeks after flights between the new civilian airport of Comiso and Malta were announced, the airline Aerosud Fly has announced it has suspended all flights in August.

However, flights operated by Medavia between Malta and Comiso are still ongoing throughout summer.

Even flights already sold by Aerosud will not be carried out.

According to a statement by the company, ticket sales were not doing well at all because it was difficult for people to book hotels in Malta and Lampedusa in high season. But the second reason, the company said, was that the charges at Comiso airport were ‘too high’.

A third reason was that both Malta and Lampedusa are served by far bigger tour operators with more experience and better backing.

The last reason mentioned by the company was that Comiso Airport is not well served by public infrastructure such as public transport connections.

The airline now hopes to try again its flights come September.
