Pre-budget document to be launched Friday

Malta Independent Thursday, 8 August 2013, 14:54 Last update: about 13 years ago

The government will be launching its pre-budget document Friday, a spokesperson for the ministry of finance confirmed Thursday.

The document is published in order to give the social partners and the public in general an idea of where the government is heading in terms of the 2014 budget.

The final budget plan needs to be approved by the European Commission before being passed through Parliament.

This will be the second budget being presented by this government in a year.

The 2013 budget was approved unanimously in May of this year, after having failed to pass through the House in December 2013.

The document is expected to feature the government's plan to reduce energy tariffs by 25% next year, as well as its commitment to reduce the budget deficit.
