Chef gets suspended sentence after resisting arrest

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 August 2013, 16:31 Last update: about 12 years ago

A chef who was under the effect of alcohol and later was involved in an argument with his girlfriend in Paceville on Monday, and then resisted the police who had intervened, was sentenced to five months in jail suspended for a year.

Ian Saliba, 29 of Msida, who had a clean criminal record and collaborated fully with the police, admitted to having violently resisted arrest, slightly injuring a police officer and threatening another two. Apparently during the scuffle with the police, he bit one of the officers. He apologised to the police in court and vowed to never to repeat such actions.

Inspector Luke Bonello prosecuted while Dr Arthur Azzopardi and Dr Chris Grima defended the Chef.
