Transfer gossip: Arsenal, Man City in battle for Dortmund's Reus

Arsenal and Manchester City face a battle to convince Marco Reus to leave Borussia Dortmund, according to the club's CEO.

The Premier League duo are both weighing up a January bid for the 24-year-old, who was a huge hit at the Bundesliga outfit last season scoring 19 times following his move from Borussia Monchengladbach.

However Dortmund CEO, Hans-Joachim Watzke, is confident the midfielder will not be lured by the offer of a move to the Premier League despite a release clause in his contract.

"Marco feels very comfortable at Dortmund and we feel comfortable with him," Watzke told Sport Bild.

"He has an even closer relationship with the club and the city than Mario Gotze did and I expect him to stay.

"Marco was born here, his family live here and his whole life has always been based here. He knows that BVB is the perfect place for him. I am sure of that."

Reus' buyout clause is close to £34m and Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger is keen to link the German up with his international team-mate Mesut Ozil.

Manuel Pellegrini was also interested in signing Reus in the summer, but a move failed to materialise before the close of the transfer window.
