After a defeat against Sliema and a draw against Balzan, Floriana returned to winning ways when they defeated Mosta 2-1 in a balanced match. With this win Floriana climbed above Qormi and Rabat with 5 points while Mosta stay fifth two points over Naxxar.
Ian Dawes’s team had a good reaction after an early goal by Mosta. On the other hand Mosta disappointed and lost an opportunity to be momentarily in second place to suffer their second consecutive after the defeat against Hibernians.
Floriana had Sacha Borg and Christian Caruana starting instead of the injured Andre Scicluna and the suspended Daniel Bogdanovic.
Mosta started the match on a high when they broke the deadlock after just five minutes when Christian Martins Fernandes recieved a back heel from Kaljevic and with a low shot put Danilo Doncic’s side in the lead. Floriana replied on the 15th minute when Christian Caruana had a header that finished over the bar after a good cross from the right flank. Floriana equalised on the 17th minute mark when Brooke Farrugia won a free-kick near the penalty area. After a small dispute between Igor Coronado and Gary Muir the latter decided to take the shot and had every reason for as a great shot in the top corner gave Omar Borg no chance.
After 25 minutes with no particular shot at goal, on the 40th minute a shot from distance by Ricardo Faria Silva finished off target. Mosta again dangerous when three minutes later from a Kane Farrugia free-kick, the Floriana goalkeeper Hanford could have
Floriana went in-front for the first time on the 53rd minute when Igor Coronado dribbled past Alex Cini, made a good run from the left flank, made his way in the penalty area and with a low shot put past Omar Borg. After this goal Mosta had a good chance on the 67th minute when Martins Fernandes had a good personal action that fininshed with a shot that failed to be on target. Mosta again dangerous on the 72nd minute but the shot from Tyrone Farrugia finished over the bar.
In the final minutes Mosta put everything on the attack but Floriana defended well to win three precious points.
