The Labour Party today accused the Nationalist Party of breaking its word on an agreement to have a day of silence from political activities on the day when two former popes were declared saints.
In a statement, the PL said it was yet another example that the PN does not stick to its promises. Until last Friday, there had been contact between the two parties to confirm the accord.
It is a pity that the PN plays these games, the PL said.
The PN retaliated saying that after a week of hiding PM Joseph Muscat from public scrutiny through controlled visits to people “ in the Labour family”, the PL is now feeling the need to start its campaign.
The PL wanted the campaign to start as from tomorrow, and not from last week, as in fact happened, the PN saud.
The PN did not break any agreement. The sides had agreed not to hold public dialogues and activities, so much so that this morning’s event was only open to the media.
The PL boasted of separating religion and state but then wants to stop all political activities because of a religious ceremony, the PN said.
