‘Made in Europe’ label will affect local business methods – Alfred Sant

Malta Independent Sunday, 27 April 2014, 08:24 Last update: about 12 years ago

Former Prime Minister Alfred Sant said that one major change that is proceeding at the level of the European Parliament is the development of a 'Made in Europe' label which will enforce standardised production and distribution guidelines, across a wide range of products and services. This will surely affect the business method of Maltese SMEs. Malta based operations still operate inside a European framework and they need to be aware of the changes happening inside it.

Dr Sant, who will contest the EP elections, was invited to attend a breakfast meeting for business men organised by the BMI network. The network meets every week to organise marketing and business cooperation among small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Dr Sant encouraged those present to place their business strategies within a wider macro strategic context. The EP Candidate also referred to the positive impact on Maltese SMEs in the real estate, public relations and ICT sections of the financial services and remote gaming sectors.

Yet it is quite likely that at European level measures will be adopted during the next five years to regulate these sectors. Such measures will come up for discussion within European institutions and it is important that Maltese SMEs monitor developments to be aware beforehand regarding how they could affect their prospects.
