Addressing a political event in Attard this evening, Dr Busuttil argued that the PL is constantly deceiving the public - "Before joining the EU, the Labour Party created all imaginable obstacles to prevent Malta from joining; making up all kinds of lies. This week again, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat has deceived the public when, after a week announcing 'big news', he announced a decrease of 2c in petrol. Is this how far his vision for our country goes?"
Dr Busuttil said that the events in the past week have highlighted the contrast present between the PN's and PL's political vision, making reference to Malta's ten year anniversary as a EU member, and the 'big' news PM Joseph Muscat announced this week.
Regarding the national employment policy launched this morning, Dr Busuttil criticized the government for not specifically pointing out in which sectors jobs will be created. He said, that under Nationalist government Malta had the 4th lowest unemployment rate within the EU; but today it stands at 6th lowest. Making reference to Junkner's statement this morning, Dr Busuttil stressed that once the unemployment rate reaches 7%, it is very difficult to then keep it from increasing.
Also present in Attard was EPP's candidate for President of the European commission Jean Claude Junkner, who said that the EPP has always backed Malta's entry within the EU; and our country's concerns when eventually, Malta did become a member. Mr Junkner promised, that if he is elected president, he will do his utmost to immediately tackle the migration issue, which has proved particularly challenging for Malta; adding that the issue is not only Malta's problem, but of the EU as a whole.
Mr. Junkner argued that Malta needs to tackle its finances properly and tackle its deficit, to ultimately improve employment. "We need to transform ideas into actions; the government needs to be on alert, and plan a strategy to create job opportunities."
