Transfer gossip: Micah Richards eyeing loan move

Malta Independent Monday, 21 July 2014, 12:21 Last update: about 11 years ago

Micah Richards is hoping that Manchester City will let him join Liverpool, Tottenham or Newcastle on loan next season, the Express reports.

Several clubs have approached City about signing Richards this summer, with Liverpool thought to be the latest club to hold talks with the Citizens.

But so far all have been put off by City's £7m asking price for the 26-year-old.

City have added Bacary Sagna to a squad already featuring Pablo Zabaleta this summer, meaning Richards first-team opportunities look to be even more limited next term.

Not only is Richards out-of-favour at the Etihad but he is also entering the final year of his current contract, meaning clubs would rather wait a year to sign the player for free rather than splash out £7m now.

But Richards is desperate to get back to playing at the highest level as soon as possible and will ask City to facilitate a loan move to give him his wish.

However, granting Richards a season-long loan at this stage would essentially amount to giving the player a free transfer given his ability to leave at the end of the season.

It now remains to be seen whether City relax their stance for a player who has spent 13 years at the club and which club will pursue a loan move most aggressive if Richards' wish is granted.
