‘Puss in Boots’ - the adult panto in summer

Malta Independent Tuesday, 19 August 2014, 13:26 Last update: about 12 years ago

Everyone knows that panto in Malta is a big deal... an annual appointment at Christmas time that delights the kiddies and allows audiences to bask in the glow of the season of goodwill.

However…

Any adults who have ever gone to watch a panto know that there is always a fair amount of subtle humour aimed at the adults too. Little jibes here and there that fly over the kiddies heads and make the parents giggle. The grown-ups love this, but to their eternal disappointment there are always very obvious lines which cannot be crossed. After all the panto is a kiddies show first and foremost. Right?

Well. Not necessarily. Not this time.

Puss in Boots is an adult panto – all the fun of the traditional show, but with all the nasty bits (and more!) left in.

The story centres around the marvellous Puss, her master, little Joseph, a confused lad who dreams of making it big in musical theatre, and his mum, our outrageous dame is on a frantic mission to make some money by any means possible. Add a lustful and gambling King, an innocent little princess, a wicked baddie with a plan, the world's most famous sidekick and a script that celebrates silliness and bad taste... and you've got a show!

Puss in Boots will turn the genre on its head − creating an anti panto if you will… it is not for kids, it is naughty rather than nice, and it is being held in summer (because…why not go the whole hog?)

With a cast featuring some of the top comedic talent on the island and a script written (and directed) by comedian, radio presenter and bona-fide nutter Steve Hili this show will be the naughtiest thing you will see this year. It will blow…your socks off!

Puss in Boots is being produced by Revolt, the team behind the fringe-style hits Romeo and Juliet 2 (and a Zombie), Sex Confessions of a Maltese Man and Adam and Eve… and Kevin, as well as The Chicken Coop Stand-up Comedy Club.

Puss in Boots will be showing at the MADC Clubrooms for one weekend only – 29-30-31 August at 8pm.
