Adventure of four opera singers ends on high note

The Mozarteum Recital at the Manoel Theatre on 9 September marked the closing of a memorable experience for four Maltese opera singers who were sponsored by the Malta International Airport, Bawag Bank Malta Ltd, Munich Re of Malta plc, Sparkasse Bank Malta plc, VAOS Ltd, Lasselsberger Group Malta, Volksbank Malta Ltd, BMW Malta Ltd and the Austrian Embassy to join the prestigious summer academy in Salzburg, Austria this summer. 

Presented by the Austrian Ambassador Petra Maria Scheebauer, the audience attending the recital at the Manoel Theatre in Valletta, Malta were treated to an impressive musical showcase, featuring a mix of popular and challenging pieces from the Italian composers Rossini, Puccini and Verdi, among others. All pieces were interpreted by the four artists and accompanied by Austrian pianist Manfred Schiebel. After the event, the artists and guests were invited to a reception at Casino Maltese. 

The four artists, soprano Nicola Said, mezzo soprano Clare Ghigo, tenor Cliff Zammit Stevens, and baritone Joseph Lia were nominated to join the Mozarteum Music School summer programme by the internationally renowned Maltese tenor Joseph Calleja. 

The Music School is considered one of the most respected in music studies and dramatic arts and has been responsible for the work and teaching of outstanding personalities such as Bernhard Paumgartner, Clemens Krauss and Paul Hindemith.
