Works on the parvis of Our Lady of Fatima church in Pieta "halted under the previous administration" are underway, Pieta mayor Keith Tanti said today.
Speaking during a news conference held in the presence of Transport and Infrastructure Minister Joe Mizzi, Mr Tanti said that the minister had immediately approved that the works are kickstarted once again when the minister visited the council's premises on his (Tanti's) appointment as mayor.
On his part, Mr Mizzi said that it does not matter to him whether works had been stopped but that the project, to cost €30,000, is implemented.

Mr Mizzi said that a number of other projects are planned for churches in Hamrun, Senglea and Kalkara, among others.
Mr Mizzi highlighted that government workers are being given importance when tasked with projects such as these.
"These projects, which are not the usual, help give a sense of pride to government workers," Mr Mizzi said.
