Ebola test carried out on a patient under investigation for ebola resulted negative. Further tests confirmed that the patient is suffering from Malaria. Currently he is still being monitored.
The person is being kept at Mater Dei where he is being held in isolation as a precautionary measure.
The Health Authorities were informed on the evening of Friday the 3rd October of a person of African origin who was alleged to have travelled from Senegal and possibly Guinea to Malta and who was suffering from fever. The man was hospitalized immediately and tested during the night.
As soon as a report was made an immediate response was initiated by the Health Authorities in accordance with the prepared protocols for cases of suspected Ebola. The person was transferred to Mater Dei Hospital as per infection control recommendations to the Infectious Disease Unit section which was set up to deal with such cases.
Contacts who were living with the person were assessed and found not to be suffering from any symptoms. As a precautionary measure they are still being kept in quarantine.
