Ghaxaq local council offices' façade
These pictures, accompanying a letter received from a reader, show the façade of Ghaxaq local council's offices, proudly displaying a plastic pipe system climbing up it. The "horrifyingly ugly" façade already painted in a garish terracotta colour has been further disfigured by this most amateur piece of plumbing presumably to attach a new air-conditioning system.
The silicone foam used in order to hastily affix the whole clumsy affair to the façade is clearly visible - and all this in the centre of an old and quaint little southern village. Surely, the reader points out, there are strict Mepa rules regulating such aesthetic atrocities.
"Shame on Ghaxaq's mayor for conceiving and endorsing such an unsightly monstrosity! Harsh penalties should be contemplated for such bad decisions on the part of local councils in general."

'Garage' no parking signs
A reader complains that a number of 'Garage - No Parking' signs are being affixed to doors when in fact such buildings are clearly not being used as garages but possibly as stores.
The picture relates to such a store in Republic Street, Valletta, on the part of street that is stepped and has bollards installed. It stands above a cellar and does not look as if it is in a condition to accommodate a motor vehicle. The road just outside the door is marked with a parking bay.
Surely no-one is entitled to slap on such No Parking signs capriciously, says the reader, pointing out that it is bad enough that numerous parking bays have recently been monopolised by various Ministries and other public entities.

Restaurants' rubbish
Some catering establishments develop a sense of entitlement and an arrogant attitude, says a reader, who sent this photograph of the rubbish dumped on a flower bed on Sliema promenade. This seems to be a daily occurrence, so much so that the plants have now been destroyed. Will Sliema local council please take note?
