CFF Filiberti Srl, an Italian company, today filed a judicial protest against Q Stone Ltd. CFF processes stone blocks and was contracted to lay the stones on the facade of the new Parliament building.
The Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation sub contracted Q Stone Ltd but CFF is arguing that the sub contracting company, which was tasked by GHRC to provide the stonework, did not deliver on the established timeframes, and CFF is being fined by GHRC €1,000 per day as a result. The CFF also argued that the quality of the stone is poor.
This, the CFF said, was leading to delays in the opening of the new parliament building.
The Prime Minister has said that the contractors were still being fined on a daily basis as a result of the project's delays. He said that discussions were underway to establish a new deadline for the works. Dr Muscat did not reveal who the contractors were who were responsible for the delays.
