Home Affairs Minister Byron Camilleri said that since the establishment of an online service where citizens can make police reports, 7,500 reports were made.

Camilleri was replying to a parliamentary question made by PL MP Ramona Attard on the online service, where he said that the experience was positive, and the number of reports made online clearly show that people have enjoyed this commodity.

"They received the service from the comfort of their own home, and there were those who made a second report after using the service initially. This shows that the service is positive," Camilleri said.

The digital system was launched in July of last year, allowing citizens to file a full police report online.

He continued that the aim is to continue moving towards digitalisation within the police force, improving technology which the citizen can make use of.

Camilleri said that while police stations and community policing still continue to receive reports, the online service has been a positive experience.

Asked by PN MP Alex Borg on whether the government has plans to open a specialised drug squad in Gozo, Camilleri said that the one specialised drug squad is for the whole country, both Malta and Gozo, and fragmenting it may cause more difficulties rather than success.

He said that the police force has been more intelligence-led, with other units being involved as well.
