Julian Bezzina, who has written a guide book on walks in and around Gharghur entitled Hal Gharghur, The Hilltop Village, Four Walks in this Charming Old Village, will be the guide for next Saturday's Flimkien gћal Ambjent Aћjar (AAA) Gharghur Walk.Participants will visit Taz Zellieqa Chapel, then walk along Top of the World, part of the old Victoria Lines, seeing interesting and intriguing sights such as the parabola used during the war and other little-known 'gems'. They will continue on to the ancient village cemetery with its rebuilt 13th century chapel, and the site where a Roman olive press was discovered.  The group will then make its way to the main church square for 6 pm, where a tour of the church will be possible with our guide. The walk is fairly easy, with one short, steep hill, so comfortable shoes are recommended.The FAA is offering walkers the option of continuing on to the newly and tastefully renovated 'Centanni' wine bar.  This bar, dating back to the beginning of the 1900s, served as a local haunt for the villagers as well as British forces personnel based in and around Gharghur during both World Wars. A choice of lasagne (vegetarian available on request) or a platter of delicious Italian hams and salamis, plus wine, is available at a special price of €15. The Italian chef prepares all his dishes on the day and all the pasta is fresh and home-made. Numbers for the walk and the wine bar are limited to 40, so confirmation through FAA's secure payment gateway is required by tomorrow, Monday 20 October. The walk is €10 and the meal €15 - including a glass of wine or soft drink. The booking should state whether it is for the walk only or for the meal as well.The meeting point will be at Taz-Zellieqa chapel on the north side of Gharghur, at 4.30 pm.
