An important phase of the flood relief project, specifically the component in Qormi has been completed in the past few days, at a cost of €4.7 million. The entire project is set to be completed by mid 2015.
Works started in November of two years ago, and since then a number important interventions have taken place, amongst which the building of two culverts in Valley Road, four at Triq Aldo Moro and two near the old golf course bridge. Three bridges in Triq Correa, Triq Manuel Dimech and Triq il Mithna have been rebuilt, and a new opening has been created at Triq San Bastjan.

Addressing a press conference this morning, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said that a number of challenges were faced including sewage overflows and broken ducts. Parliamentary Secretary Ian Borg said that the project has been extended to include the Zebbug area, thanks to an increase of €700,000 in EU Funds. Works at the Zebbug tunnel are expected to be completed in the upcoming months.
Writing on Facebook, Qormi deputy mayor Jesmond Aquilina expressed his frustration that he and other Qormi councillors had not been invited for the event.
