The Din l-Art Ħelwa Youth Committee is organising a Restoration Workshop at Our Lady of Victory Church, Valletta on Saturday 15 November between 10am and 4pm, and on Sunday 16 November between 11am to 4pm. Conducting Conservators are Amy Sciberras and Sarah Yeomans Gafa.This initiative is organised in the run up to the Din l-Art Ħelwa's 50th Anniversary and enhances the main purposes and objectives of the Youth Committee in involving young people in Din l-Art Ħelwa's mission. The workshop will throw light on the general care and conservation of collections and cultural heritage so as to raise awareness among the general public, especially the young, regarding the importance of preserving our national patrimony. The conducting conservators will demonstrate the diverse steps of a conservation of paintings, including preliminary scientific analysis, to better tailor the required treatments. Through the use of posters, on site non-invasive analysis and hands-on work on a number of old paintings, the general public and students will be introduced to the scientific research involved in the field of restoration. Cleaning treatments as well as preliminary analysis of paintings using ultraviolet fluorescence will be carried out. Optivisors will be offered to people to examine damaged paintings under magnification.Schoolchildren from age 6 to 16 are invited to attend together with their parents and persons interested in conservation/restoration of paintings as are general members of the public. Attendance is free of charge but donations to Din l-Art Ħelwa's Victory Church project will be appreciated.This initiative has been made possible with the support of the Ministry of Education and Minister Evarist Bartolo, who has kindly accepted to open the workshop on Saturday 15 November at 10am.
