After so much controversy: Tonio Fenech's Arlogg tal-Lira is battery operated

Wednesday, 5 November 2014, 21:35 Last update: about 12 years ago

The mythical Arlogg tal-Lira that former minister Tonio Fenech received from a member of the Farrugia family, Doreen, which was much mentioned in the pre-election period, does really exist and is still in Mr Fenech's house. This was revealed by former Inspector Angelo Gafa who continued testifying to the Public Accounts Committee well into the night.

Mr Gafa said he had visited Mr Fenech's house as part of the investigations and he saw the Maltese clock. However, it is battery operated - as against the real traditional Maltese clocks. And in his estimation it did not cost more than €500.

Mr Gafa also said it resulted that Mrs Farrugia had been paid by the family company for doing the clock, so it was not exactly coming from her admiration of Mr Fenech.
