The opposition has raised some serious questions regarding Louis Attard, an Enemalta official charged with stealing electricity through the use of a tampered meter and with bribing a public official.
PN MP George Pullicino said that Mr Attard should have been charged with a more serious crime, that this was a crime he was in fact duty bound to prevent. Mr Attard had been suspended from his job.
Mr Pullicino alleged that Mr Attard held the position of Head of Accounts within Enemalta and has close ties with the energy Ministry. He asked why more serious accusations weren't brought before the court, asking whether anyone put pressure on the prosecution in this regard.
PN Deputy Leader Mario De Marco argued that several questions regarding the new power station have yet to be answered, and none of these were answered during the Parliamentary debate. He added that the reason for the delay was the discussions between Electrogas, Shanghai Electric and government, further asking whether anything has gone wrong within the talks.
PN MP Ryan Callus argued that there is no need for the re-gasification plant to be built on land, given that when the gas pipeline is built, it would essentially be useless.
