Saturday, 8 November 2014, 12:12 Last update: about 12 years ago

The General Workers Union said today it has issued a number of directives at the security services section of Enemalta after certain management officials adopted a confrontational and arrogant attitude and started taking arbitrary decisions that affect workers without its approval. The union warned that the directives may be extended to other sections of workers.

The GWU insisted that all changes related to corporation employees have to be carried out through discussions and agreement with it.  It said that certain managers have chosen the path of confrontation and their attitude does not augur well for good industrial relations between the two sides. The huge challenges Enemalta is facing cannot be implemented without cooperation and agreement with the GWU.

It also insisted it was unacceptable for it to be informed of these changes by email or telephone. In view of the arrogance displayed, it will not hesitate to name the officials.

The union apoligised to the public for any inconvenience that might be caused as a result of its directives. It appealed to Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi to intervene and put a stop to this arrogance.
