Members of the Civil Protection Department yesterday saved three drivers who were caught up in the floods.
In a statement issued this morning, the department said it carried out 33 interventions following last night's violent storm. Its members worked non-stop from 4pm until 6am this morning.
They saved three people who were trapped in their cars and removed 25 trees and broken electricity cables from Kirkop, Ghajn Dwieli, Mosta, Paola, Mriehel, Ghaxaq, Attard, Burmarrad, Mistra, Wardija, Luqa, Zejtun, Ta' Qali, Bahrija, Msida, Pembroke, Swieqi, Marsa, Cospicua and Floriana.
The CPD also removed a billboard which had toppled over and intervened at two flooded houses. Rescue workers also removed a dangerous energy pylon and put out a fire that broke out at a shop.
CPD members and government workers are this morning still clearing broken trees and branches and removing debris carried by the rain waters.
