Around 90 tonnes of waste is expected to be removed from the Grand Harbour, the Ministry for Transport has said.
Joint work between the Cleaning Directorate within the Transport Ministry and the Grand Harbour Regeneration Corporation will tomorrow begin cleaning works near the lower part of fort Saint Elmo.
"Since this site was used by carnival enthusiasts, and was even illegally occupied by certain individuals, a large amount of waste accumulated over the years.
The cleaning works will occur with the help of carnival enthusiasts as well as the Police. Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said that this work will complement other restoration works occurring in Fort Saint Elmo, a project which is expected to conclude in the coming weeks.
Small vans will be used to handle the waste due to restrictions.
