Friday, 14 November 2014, 08:38 Last update: about 10 years ago

The final preparations are in full swing on the eve of the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, to be held at Marsa on Saturday.

A poll conducted by Wiwibloggs, one of the world's most read independent sites dedicated to the Eurovision, has sadly for Malta placed Federica Falzon's Diamonds at the very last position.

The poll was shared on Facebook more than 23,000 times. But this is just one of many predictions after all that come about before such high profile events in a bid to create excitement in the run up to the big day.

As of November 12 at 5.30 p.m., the site's readers had cast a total of 653,387 votes in the poll Who Will Win Junior Eurovision 2014?

"Since we opened this poll on October 21, it's been neck-and-neck between Ukraine and Bulgaria, with the two countries dominating each and every update," the site stated.

According to the site, since the very beginning of the poll, Ukraine's Sympho-Nick led with 31,390 votes, just ahead of Bulgaria's Krisia with 30,373. Ukraine retained its lead to the end attracting 102,879 votes with Serbia's song Svet U Mojim Ocima attracting 90,276 votes. Croatia's Game Over placed third garnering 89,992 votes.

Ministers Mallia, Zammit Lewis visit stage

Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia, whose remit is PBS as well, the organisers of the Malta Song Contest, and Tourism Minister Edward Zammit Lewis yesterday visited the futuristic looking Junior Eurovision stage at the former Marsa Shipbuilding, where sound and lighting checks are the order of the day in the run up to the big day, tomorrow.

Designed by Claudio Santucci, the stage consists of triangles in different sizes, conjuring up the ancient art of origami to form the JESC logo. The 28-metre stage features a 9m high LED screen (of a high resolution) and smaller LED screens (of lower resolution) all inside triangle-shaped mirrors. There are also two catwalks, small LED elements on the floor, an LED floor at the centre of the stage, as well as a lighting wall behind the main LED screen.

This stage will welcome delegations from 16 different countries.
