Within two weeks, two separate Italian airlines have introduced flights linking Malta to Italy.
New operator MaltaFly announced last week that it will shortly introduce new direct flights between Malta and Palermo as from 5th December.
Prices start from €79 return (all fees included). Passengers will enjoy a 15kg baggage allowance together with a 5kg hand luggage.
"Now Palermo and Malta are just an hour away," highlighted Teo Longo, MaltaFly CEO.
The flights to the city of Palermo will operate twice a week, on Friday and Monday, allowing both Maltese and Sicilians to enjoy short breaks.
Departure from Malta will be at 10.45am arriving at Palermo at 11.45am.
Departure from Palermo is at 9am arriving in Malta at 10am.

Meanwhile, the airport of Malta in cooperation with FlyHermes Airline is increasing its links with Italy in particular with the eastern side of Sicily and Turin in Piedmont as from 15 December.
In Sicily, the Maltese airline will fly to Comiso Airport which is located in a strategic area of eastern Sicily, in the touristic area of Ragusa, Syracuse, Agrigento, Catania, Modica, Noto Caltagirone, Piazza Armerina, Marina di Ragusa, Scicli and Licata.
Passengers travelling from Malta will be able to fly to Turin directly from Malta, remaining on board during the short stop in Comiso. The flight leaves Luqa Airport at 7am and arrives in Comiso at 7.30am and in Turin at 8.30am. The departure from Turin will be at 7pm, the arrival at Comiso at 9pm and arrival at Malta 10pm
The schedule flights will operate every day of the week except Saturday.
