The discussions between Enemalta Corporation and Shanghai Electric Power were concluded and the agreement is to be signed in the coming days, the government said in a statement.

This, the government said, will be the largest investment this country has ever seen. Shnaghai Electric is to invest a sum of money in Enemalta and its Delimara 3 plant.

Apart from this investment, the government continued, Enemalta and Shanghai Electric Power are to engage in a number of joint ventures, one which will see the company providing alternative energy for the European market and the other related to Shanghai Electric’s plant it has in the region.

“As a result of this agreement, Enemalta will have strong pillars to stand on and will be able to contribute to the country’s economic growth,” the statement read.

This agreement also means that for the first time ever, Enemalta will be participating in overseas projects.

The government said that it will publish the final agreement and is to table it for discussion in parliament.
