Prime Minister Joseph Muscat is expected to receive the shooting incident inquiry report involving the driver of Home Affairs Minister Manuel Mallia today and it is expected that the report’s conclusions will be made public by the PM, and that immediate action will be taken.

The PM appointed three former judges to look into the incident which led to the Home Affairs Minister’s driver, Paul Sheehan, to be accused of attempted murder. The shooting took place at Tal-Qroqq’s tunnels following a hit-and-run incident involving Minister Mallia’s ministerial car and driver. The driver is believed to have fired several shots at a Scotsman’s car after he clipped the ministerial car’s side mirror.

Speaking to this newsroom, the Government’s Information Director Kurt Farrugia said that it is highly likely that the report is handed to the prime minister today, but could not give an exact time to when it would be issued.

When asked if the conclusions of the report and Dr Muscat’s decisions would be made public today, he said that the report would have to be reviewed by Dr Muscat and a decision taken but it all depends at what time he receives the report.

“If the prime minister receives the report at 10 pm, it’s one thing, it is another if her receives it early” Mr Farrugia said.

Questioned if he would resign in the event he is implicated in the report, Mr Farrugia said I won’t stay five extra minutes, I will resign voluntarily.

Commissioner Ray Zammit not picking up

Efforts to contact Commissioner of Police Ray Zammit to ask him whether he will step down if found to have acted irregularly, proved futile.

Yesterday evening, Net TV yesterday broadcast two telephone conversations which took place between Sheehan and the control room on the night of the shooting incident in Gzira.

At one point, Mr Sheehan tells the control room officer that the minister was with him. He is heard shooting at a car as he requests assistance.
