Chris Ebejer retrospective exhibition

Monday, 22 December 2014, 16:36 Last update: about 12 years ago

This year sees Chris Ebejer commemorate 10 years of intense work spanning his artistic career. To celebrate this anniversary a major retrospective exhibition is being held showcasing the development and evolution of his art over the last ten years with an array of works created using various different materials from his rich artistic repertoire.

During this retrospective exhibition one can observe various developments and techniques employed by the artist over the past decade resulting in both figurative and expressive impressions. This time, rather than being focused on any individual style or flavour, the viewer is invited to relish a taste of diversity reflecting Ebejer's eclectic qualities as well his ability in adapting a variety of materials to different effect. This large collection highlights the artist's proficiency and creativity through a range of sculptures made from bronze, terracotta, ceramics as well as a number of designs.

When creating art, Chris has never been interested in making a name by producing controversial works simply for a short-lived impact but would rather be known for his sense of continuation of that same beauty that always characterised European art over the centuries. His works are intended to transmit aesthetic pleasure that generate a certain joy deep within the viewer, unlike perhaps, most of the works generated by many contemporary artists.

Chris Ebejers artistic journey immediately gave amazing results. At a tender age he became the first Maltese artist to have a work on permanent public display in the far East, (China). In 2002 was commissioned by the USA cable network to design and build the horse for the film "Helen of Troy". In Malta Ebejer is also well known through several public monuments. His largest work so far is the large fountain located at Montekristo Estate. He won several awards and competitions, with his design being chosen for the Mater Dei monument at the entrance of the new hospital. In 2008 was appointed by Archbishop to work the silver statue given to Pope Benedict XVI when on his visit to Malta. He is presently involved in several major artistic projects such as a remarkable large bronze door for the main building, also at Montekristo Estates.

This interesting exhibition shall be held in the foyer of the ground floor within the elegant Casino Maltese, within the heart of Valletta, (Republic street just across Pjazza Regina), and shall be open to the public till  28 December all week including Sundays.
