Maltese artist and academic Raphael Vella has been invited to show his recent work at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. Entitled 'Raising a Revolutionary', this solo exhibition brings together a large selection of recent drawings on book-pages and sculpture by the Maltese artist, many of which have never been shown elsewhere. The general theme of the exhibition revolves around utopian ideas generated by well-known anarchists, politicians, architects and philosophers, and reflects about the ways political and artistic revolutions seek to forget the past, often in vain.
The large Senate Hall within the Fine Arts academy has been newly restored for the occasion, and the exhibition is accompanied by a fully-illustrated catalogue that was specially-designed by a Polish design team. This is the first time that a Maltese artist's work has been shown in this prestigious venue. The exhibition is open to the public from 2 December until 9 January, and has been made possible with the generous help of the Malta Embassy in Warsaw and the Cultural Diplomacy Fund.
