The government has suspended Godwin Sant from the Sustainable Energy and Water Conservation Unit, following allegations in the local press that under the previous administration, he accepted gifts from oil giant Trafigura while serving as Director for the state regulatory body responsible for ensuring that imported oil fuel specifications were according to tender requirements
According to a report on MaltaToday, the gifts were accepted at oil trader George Farrugia's request and he kept a close relationship with George Farrugia throughout his tenure at the Malta Resources Authority.
Godwin Sant previously held the position of Director for Energy Regulation and later Chief Officer for Energy Policy at the MRA.
The reports said that in 2009, Godwin Sant received UK football tickets as part of a gift from Trafigura.
