Information campaign relating to new bus fares in March - Transport Minister Joe Mizzi

Monday, 19 January 2015, 18:37 Last update: about 11 years ago

An information campaign relating to the new incoming bus fares will occur in March, Transport Minister Joe Mizzi said in response to Parliamentary questions posed by PN MP Censu Galea.

The Minister emphasized that fares will not rise, however that the new card system would actually save money. He always said that they would be advantageous for students and the elderly.

The Minister said that a 7 day pass, for example, would allow people to travel around Malta and Gozo for as long as they want for seven days with said card.

As to purchasing tickets on busses themselves, he said that he would like to deter this for environmental reasons, stating that this causes traffic to slow down as people pay for the tickets while also being bad for the environment as the engine is kept on.

The Minister emphasized that the fares will not change until July.
