Aurobindo plans on expanding its operations in Malta and investing €6 million, thereby creating, according to them, among the largest analytical testing facilities in Europe.

The pharmaceutical research company currently employs 60 full-time employees in Malta, however this number is expected to more than double, Prime Minister Joseph Muscat said attending the event.

Company Chairman Ramprasad Reddy said that the company is three-decades old with headquarters in India. He said that 9,500 professionals are employed with the company in 26 countries, "most of whom are graduates, post-graduates, research scientists and PhDs, working across the globe".

He stated that Aurobindo has had a presence in Malta for over eight years. Currently "When commissioned this year, the expansion will allow annual testing capacity to increase from 5,500 batches to 25,000 batches... we are confident that this facility will provide hundreds of direct and indirect employment to Maltese nationals.

The Prime Minister said he was thrilled that such a global player has showed trust in the Maltese economy. He mentioned that the government is fighting to reduce costs that burden companies, stating that the recent energy tariff reduction for businesses is an example of how businesses are being helped.

Economy Minister Chris Cardona described the company as "a perfect example of a business that does not recognise borders, but recognises opportunities".
