Pyrex celebrates 100 years

Monday, 20 April 2015, 14:52 Last update: about 12 years ago

This year marks 100 years since Corning Glass Works, in New York, developed its wildly successful line of kitchenware from a glass composition previously used for railroad signal lanterns.

The introduction of Pyrex in 1915 - with ranges of pie plates, casserole dishes and custard cups, among other items - set the company on an 83-year product development and marketing journey.

It wasn't until 1998 that the company sold its consumer brands, including Pyrex, to a group that would become World Kitchen Inc.

In Malta, Petrolea has been the Pyrex sole agent for the last 82 years, since 1933.

From the best and strongest oven proof glass dishes, to ceramic dishes, to stoneware, to pots and pans and even dishes with storage lids, Pyrex is a household name the world over - from the USA to Europe and the Far East.

In Europe, the company has its own manufacturing plant of borosilicate glass, based in Châteauroux, France.

All Pyrex pots and pans are microwave-safe and suitable for all cooking stoves.  All Pyrex glassware is made of borosilicate glass, which is the strongest glass for the oven.

Research has showed that today's kitchenware product offer is fragmented and consumers' expectations frequently remain unmet. Pyrex's mission is clear: to facilitate consumers' choice by developing a pan-European kitchenware brand they understand and trust.

Over the years, Pyrex has offered families new ideas to help prepare, cook and serve at the table.
Through continuous innovation, and by combining tradition and innovation, the brand now offers a wide range of cookware, available in several materials, shapes, designs and colours.

2015 marks yet another important milestone in Pyrex's history.  At Pyrex, product innovation remain at the forefront, while never forgetting the brand's strong heritage and iconic products, to ensure that great times are always homemade.
