Opposition Leader Simon Busuttil this morning paid a visit to the Betsson headquarters in Ta’ Xbiex, where he met with the company management and employees.

Betsson, an online betting company, owns and operates a number of websites via its subsidiaries in Malta. It has close to a thousand employees, with more than 600 in Malta. The company invested some €5.5 million into the he Malta HQ, called the Betsson Experience Centre, and has recently expressed its intention to continue investing in the country.

Dr Busuttil said it was fitting that he visited the company on the eve of Worker’s Day because Betsson is the present and very much in the future of Malta’s economy.

The PN, he said, had been very much involved in creating the gaming sector in Malta and it is very proud of that fact.

“The PN had a vision. We knew that people bet and play so we thought why not regulate the sector? Here we are today, with companies like Betsson and several others and thousands of jobs created between them. This sector makes up a huge chunk of our economy.”

Dr Busuttil advised the company to stay one step ahead of the game. “We are here to support you throughout.”

Betsson Group CEO Ulrik Bengtsson said the company was very happy with the relationship it has with the Malta Gaming Authority and the government and spoke about the potential for the sector to grow further.
