"I was in my teenage years when I started getting into music. I was often more interested in how it was 'made' rather than the song itself. I used to study on the layers of a song and try to build it from scratch. It was a stimulation of happiness, and it still is."

Dean Demanuele cannot imagine his life without music. He admits that he tried to tread the academic path when he was of school age, but that it just wasn't for him at all. He explains that he is self-taught as far as creating music is concerned, but it was travelling which opened his eyes to what the music industry could offer him.

"My music influences are mostly from the 80's and 90's, when electronic music and music in general was more about freedom of expression and a time to explore," he tells me, "While travelling I got to know various 'tricks' in the industry. There was also a period of time when I worked with two particular artists called Pig & Dan in London whom I loved working with. I learnt a lot from that experience."

There are various areas in which Dean works on an everyday basis but the area in which he excels in is music production.

"I work on new music constantly throughout the year in my studios in Malta and Berlin and I'm always experimenting through new ideas that I have. Music enthusiasts always love new stuff so I try to give them what they want, "he explains. "It's a different world in the music business in major countries like Germany, where I live now.  Music is big business here and it's a place a lot of artistes come across at one point in their lives. It's always a new experience every time I come here to tour. It's also a strange but nice feeling to fly to different parts of Europe during the weekend and showcase the music I worked on just a few days before."

Although he is based mainly abroad now, Dean thinks that Malta has a lot to offer to the music industry:

"There is a lot of hidden talent in Malta that gets lost through everyday routine and busy lives. I think we need to give more of a priority to the arts in general in Malta and start to promote it across all media. There needs to be more of a big push altogether to get us to the point we deserve to be at."

Apart from creating and performing his own music, Dean also has his own record label called 'Dazed and Confused Records'.

"It was a dream to have my own platform to release my own music whenever I felt like," he smiles, It's also nice to have like-minded artists release their music on the label, so I'm very proud of it and it's growing slowly year by year.!

Dean says that he is currently trying to get new shows throughout the world, not just in Europe. He has three singles which are planned for distribution this year and which will be released on Einmusika record label in Berlin, Snatch! in London and Tenampa in Mexico. In five years' time, he sees himself touring across the world and having more singles and albums released to a wider audience than today.

 "Being where I am today is my biggest achievement so far, having gone against all odds and pursuing what was initially a gut feeling and turning it into a reality. It wasn't an easy but the satisfaction is beyond me. I still have a lot more to achieve so i think of this as the beginning of a long successful road. "
