An Open Day is being held at the Johann Strauss School of Music on Thursday, 28 May, 2015, from 3.30 to 7.30 p.m. at its new premises on the Maria Assumpta School campus in Joseph Abela Scolaro Street, Hamrun.

The Open Day is a great opportunity for the public, parents and prospective young and adult students, to visit the facilities, meet the teachers, hear the instruments and try them out of courses offered at the school.

The Johann Strauss School of Music is the only government school in music performance on the island. Its principal aim is to prepare students for careers as creative musicians and performers. Over the past 40 years since its foundation, thousands of students have followed music courses, paving the way for further specialisation, both locally and abroad.

The School of Music was originally situated in Old Bakery Street, Valletta. Since last January, the school was relocated to its new premises in Hamrun.

The Johann Strauss School of Music features some of Malta's top musicians and pedagogues, who constantly help individual students achieve their highest potential in music appreciation, theoretical knowledge, performance and musicianship through a range of effective music programmes. The school also invites foreign tutors to provide master classes and workshops for the students from time to time.

With more than 30 courses on offer, catering from beginners to advanced students, as well as adult learners, the school gives students the opportunity to attend a weekly individual practical lesson on the instrument of their choice and a theory lesson. The youngest students first attend a specially designed course in Music and Movement, which aims to provide a solid musical foundation.

Most orchestral instruments are catered for, as well as saxophone, classical and contemporary guitar, bass guitar, bagpipe, piano, classical voice, accordion. In addition, students can take up contemporary and jazz courses
