The Malta Environment and Planning Authority (Mepa) has signed a sponsorship agreement with the EASA Malta Foundation who this coming August, will be hosting The European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA) in Malta.
EASA is an annual event which brings together 500 of the most talented architectural students from every part of Europe to address issues facing the profession and the built and unbuilt environment. During these two intensive weeks, the participants will get involved and partake in various workshops, lectures, exhibitions and events.
The event, which is being held at the Valletta Ditch known as Il-Foss, aims to create awareness for the impressive fortifications and tunnel systems that criss-cross the Valletta ditch. The public will also be invited to view the site and attend a series of open and free talks and debates which will be delivered by world renowned professionals, such as, Antonio Belvedere, Carlo Ratti, Indira van't Klooster and Philippe Prost at the Pjazza Teatru Rjal.
Mepa's CEO Johann Buttigieg said: "The Authority is wholeheartedly supporting this international event because we firmly believe that our upcoming architects need to be given every opportunity to cultivate a creative spirit for innovative design and the use of alternative materials."
This year's participants will be able to enrol in any of the 35 different workshops that will be happening simultaneously at the event. The selected workshops were chosen after the representatives of the EASA Malta Foundation evaluated over 130 proposals that were submitted by both local and foreign participants. The workshops are extremely wide-ranging and will expose participants to projects of various scales, mediums, technologies and environments.
EASA Malta Foundation chairman Perit Karl Ebejer said: "The EASA Malta Foundation and the EASA Community as a whole are looking forward to work hand-in-hand with Mepa on this unique event. We firmly believe that together we can elevate the quality and substance of this international event to enable it to leave a lasting positive impact in the area, especially in the line-up to Valletta 2018 Capital of Culture."
Last month, Mepa organised an EASA Forum aimed at associating well defined elements of the assembly with specific contributors, enabling EASA to represent companies and/or organisations in the form of advertisement opportunities, product placement, demonstrations, reports and exhibitions as well as to enlighten how EASA Links 2015 can showcase the contributors in an international arena.
