A Spanish man admitted in court to attacking a policeman who intervened in an argument over a broken table in a Sleima bar.

Enric Sala Codina, 46, was charged with assaulting a police officer during the argument outside a bar in Sliema. The incident happened on Tuesday.

He also pleaded guilty to being drunk at the time of the argument.

Magistrate Aaron Bugeja heard how the police intervened after an escalation of an argument over a broken table at a bar. During the argument, the police officer was pushed and injured.

The magistrate jailed him for three months suspended for a year and fined him €1,000 after police Inspector Jonathan Ransley called on the court to get the message across that “Malta is not a jungle”.

Lawyer Giannella de Marco appeared for the accused.
