In brief comments to the press while entering the European Council building in Brussels, Finance Minister Edward Scicluna believes tonight "will be a long night".

The Minister expressed his hope that they would settle the Greek reform issue. "We will haggle with reforms, taxes and expenditure but finally even if we are to have an agreement, what is important for Greece is to earn the trust of the creditors... the trust of the investors; and that won't come up just by achieving agreement today. It's a longer process than that"

The Minister is not impressed with comments made prior to the meeting. "You would expect that," he said. The Minister was referring to Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras tweeted earlier today, where he said that  "The odd stance seems to indicate that either there is no interest in an agreement or that special interests are being backed".

"The insistence of certain institutions of not accepting parametric measures has never happened before -- not in Ireland, nor in Portugal," The Greek Prime Minister continued.

This came following international media reports that creditors are calling for Greece to reduce the proposed tax increases on businesses, "doubling defence cuts, raising more from sales taxes and cutting into pension benefits rather than relying mostly on increased contributions".
