A homeless man was charged with making use of someone else's credit card to buy some food, beer and cigarettes.

In court, the prosecutor explained how Perry Thomas Bilsborrow, a Canadian, used a credit card he found to buy 35 Euros in items from a convenience shop on the Sliema front. The man pleaded guilty to the charges brought against him.

The court noted that the man was previously handed a suspended sentence for attempted theft and that he was also on probation for a while after being charged with drug possession.

Magistrate Consuelo Scerri Herrera granted the man bail, ordering him to pay back the money within two weeks’ time, when she will hand down judgment. He is expected to sign the bail book every day at the police station in Sliema.

Mr Bilsborrow notified the magistrate that he will be residing with a friend.

Inspector Neville Mercieca prosecuted. Legal aid Patrick Valentino appeared for the man.
