The PN said today that it was shameful how Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and PL Deputy Leader Toni Abela had launched an attack on three workers who are fathers of young children, branding them as spies, when several people close to them were given more than one source of income.

Addressing a press conference this afternoon, PN Deputy Leader Beppe Fenech Adami said that Dr Muscat and Dr Abela, after finding themselves with their backs to the wall with all the scandals that have been revealed, have resorted to attacking these three workers simply because they were helping an Opposition MP.

Dr Fenech Adami said it was disgusting how the PM and the PL Deputy Leader have been attacking the three workers at the centre of the Finance Google Group “espionage” controversy because they had different political allegiances. Dr Muscat keeps attacking the workers, two of whom have been suspended with half pay but on the other hand keeps defending people like Peter Paul Zammit, who has once again been caught in an act of abuse of power.  

Dr Fenech Adami called on Home Affairs Minister Carmelo Abela to launch an inquiry into allegations that former police comissioner Ray Zammit and his sons -who are also in the police force- are in business with the Gaffarenas. 

Blogger and The Malta Independent columnist Daphne Caruana Galizia revealed this week that Inspector Daniel Zammit went into business with Joe Gaffarena - Marco Gaffarena's father - while investigating and prosecuting Gaffarena's son-in-law for the murder of his wife's daughter in 2008. 

Mr Caruana was accused of shooting dead Neville Baldacchino, in his own home in Qormi in December 2008.

Mr Caruana – who was 28 at the time- found Mr Baldacchino in his house, allegedly in the company of his wife, and shot him several times with a shotgun.

He pleaded not guilty to the murder, but since then has not yet been placed under a bill of indictment.

It was also revealed in Parliament that just days after being boarded out of the police force, Mr Zammit was offered a €60,000 a year job with Enemalta. 

The shares in the company on the Zammits side now appear under Jane Zammit's name - Ray Zammit's wife.
