Labour party gives all credit to Joseph Muscat for EU’s migrant sharing decision

The agreement reached for migration burden sharing is a historical milestone showing that Europe is showing solidarity, the Labour Party said in a statement.

In two years in government, the number of migrants reaching Malta has decreased sufficiently and the European Union has now agreed with what Dr Muscat has been saying all along, it said.

According to the PL, it was Dr Muscat’s address in the summit that led to the agreement.

The decision of the European Council to introduce the obligation on all Member States on relocation and resettlement sealed the promised made in the pre-election manifesto. In an emergency situation, Malta will also benefit from this decision, the statement said.

“ The Prime Minister has shown that he is insistent on saving migrants from sea. He has managed to achieve what others did not.”
