The salary of the Water Services Corporation chairman– William Wait - is the same as his predecessor, Energy Minister Konrad Mizzi told parliament.

Asked if it is identical, a bit more or a bit less than his predecessor by PN MPs Claudio Grech and Jason Azzopardi, Dr Mizzi said Mr Wait has a dual role, that of executive chairman and CEO.

If one were to look at the previous chairman’s salary, it is relatively the same, he reiterated.

The Opposition asked whether the salary is the same as that of a chairman and a CEO put together to which Dr Mizzi replied in the affirmative.

Asked whether there was a public call issued for this post, Dr Mizzi went on to say that the WSC has made a quantum leap in its services and made significant financial gains.

He said that workers recently started to enjoy an increase in their wages. This, he said, could be made possible only because the WSC is making money.

The Opposition pressed Dr Mizzi to say how much exactly Mr Wait is earning as chairman and CEO and to give a run-down of the WSC's gains but members of the Opposition seem to be in for a long wait as question time was up.
