The Opposition has appealed to government to draft tourism schemes that are crucial for Malta's tourism product.

The Opposition said that two years have passed since the 2014-2020 programme came into force and "we are now informed that the tourism industry does not have enough schemes to incentivise the industry".

"In the 2007 - 2013 funding programme, a number of schemes incentivising the sector were created to strengthen the tourism product. Among these schemes was the 'Grant Scheme for Tourism Enterprises 2007' which gave €10 million for projects which saw a €25 million investment".

"The Opposition does not look at tourism as a political football, but rather a sector that deserves importance".

The PN noted with satisfaction the positive numbers of tourists arriving on the islands.
