A Venezuelan woman today was charged with falsely accusing a police officer of committing a crime, Magistrate Natasha Galea Sciberras heard in Court.
In June this year, the woman, Yinette Consuelo Guaquirian Pedrique had gone to the police and alleged that she was injured by a policeman. She was at the ID office and claimed that the he took out a taser gun, pushed her and she fell to the floor, breaking her arm.
Inspector Justin Camilleri told the Court that CCTV footage shows that the policeman never pushed her, but rather when she tripped, he tried to grab her to stop her from falling.
The police did not want bail to be granted as the woman does not have a permanent Maltese address, however the defence claimed that she lived with her nephew in Malta.
Bail was granted though a €300 deposit and a €5,000 personal guarantee.
